Hep! Hep!

Sometime in the future (probably a few years) I will become the proud owner/companion of a nice doggie. I'm pretty good with dogs, but I don't know much about them ... other than how to keep them company. Many of you (the blog buddies I call yall) have a dog, so I need your help. If you could recommend a website or book that would teach a dog novice a thing or two about caring for a pet dog, I would be grateful. Thanks!

The Humane Society has a pretty good general site about caring for your dog--the link:

http://www.hsus.org/pets/pet_care/dog_care/

Also check out www.dogperfection.com --it's got helpful hints as well as a funny ass section called "Is My Dog Hot or Not?"--you can rate how cute (or ugly, if the case may be) peoples pets are!!!

www.centralpets.com should help with dogs, cats, lizards, snakes, lions chimps and Kuatimundis

I've had dogs all my life--never read a book on how to care for them... Current dog is a Australian Shepherd (mother's side) and with an unknown father and he's great.

As far as learning to care for them, my daughter has a gameboy that teaches all about dogs. (in the long run, it cost less that some of the vet bills I've had) Playing this game, she's learned more about dogs than I ever will.

If you get a puppy, be prepared. It's like having a child! They pee EVERYWHERE for the first three months...and then sporadically after that if you are Wilson...

After I bought my dog, I wished I had gotten a mutt at the pound cause they all need a second chance, so, good for you.

P.S. Purebreeds are more suseptible to sickness of every kind. Skin irritants, internal sickness, special food requirements.
